VISIONS OF HUMANITY
In this exhibition I present ceramic works through which I would like to convey the importance and need of social interaction of the human being in a community, through the conscious and subconscious formation of relationships.
Social interaction, support, unity and relationships are the main drivers of my works. The fast-paced environment of the modern world that we live in easily distracts us from these ideals into a self-centred individual cut off from social reality which distorts one’s ideals and contribution to society. My vision of humanity is one where the individual will create a harmonious environment that will affect not only himself but the community as a whole.
The human figure, which features prominently in my sculptural works, is depicted in a personal expressive style. These hand-built ceramics convey a harmonious balance of shape and line, and textured to emphasize movement. Through the use of these simple linear forms, I explore the human figure through these emotions and situations. These, portrayed with minimal detail and without features, convey a sense of anonymity, where the viewer is left to adapt to his imagination.
The main emphasis is the subject depicted and the form as a whole. Glazes are somewhat subdued and applied in a monochromatic way. They are used solely to enhance and project the form to the viewer.
My creative journey is a personal one and expresses my life’s journey, convictions and struggle, discovering myself in the process with the completion of each sculpture; hence Visions of Humanity.
