EXPRESSING HUMANITY

Presents
an exhibition of sculptures by

Mario Sammut

The human figure features prominently in my sculptural works. Social interaction and relationships form the basis of this exhibition. Throughout life, courting, intimacy, emotions, all affect humanity in different ways. Through the use of simple linear forms, I explore the human figure through these emotions and situations.
I portray the human figure or groups of figures with minimal detail yet in monumental form. My creative journey is a personal one and expresses my life’s journey, convictions and struggle, discovering myself in the process with the completion of each sculpture.
Intimacy plays an important part in one’s life, the presence of which will create a harmonious environment that will affect not only the individual but the community as a whole.
Man was not born to be alone. Although the individual needs space to develop one’s character, he needs socialising and interaction to develop fully. The forms of my human figures are rather minimal in execution, capturing the moment and keeping what is important for me to convey messages of intimacy, love, interaction. The formation of relationships, either with another individual or in a group, is a psychological need that we all work for.

Adam & Eve

Adam & Eve

Sorrow, shame and dejection are portrayed in the piece named Adam & Eve. In this sculpture, Adam is standing behind Eve both holding their heads down after having fallen from grace.
Intimate Moments, depicts a moment in one’s life when one needs support. Time stands still while, body and soul passing through an emotional moment, become one.
The main medium I used for this exhibition is high fired ceramics, but I also included some aluminium and bronze castings. These metal castings are small models proposed for large scale sculptures.
